my life for the last 10 years has been a Tapas ...

my life for the last 10 years has been a Tapas ...

by Tim Shaktim Maloney on Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at 5:25pm
Tapasya (tápasya) in Sanskrit means "heat". In Vedic religion and Hinduism, it is used figuratively, denoting spiritual suffering, mortification or austerity, and also the spiritual ecstasy of a yogin or tāpasá (a Vriddhi derivative meaning "a practitioner of austerities, an ascetic"). In theRigveda, the word is connected with the Soma cult. The adjective tapasvín means "wretched, poor, miserable", but also "an ascetic, someone practicing austerities".

In the yogic tradition, tapasya may be translated as "essential energy", referring to a focused effort leading towards bodily purification and spiritual enlightenment. It is one of the Niyamas (observances of self-control) described in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Tapasya implies a self-discipline or austerity willingly expended both in restraining physical urges and in actively pursuing a higher purpose in life. Through tapas, a yogi or spiritual seeker can "burn off" or prevent accumulation of negative energies, clearing a path toward spiritual evolution.

Personified, Tapasya appears as the father of Manyu in the Rigveda. The tapo-raaja ("king over austerities") is a name of the Moon.

Sanskrit tapasya (neuter gender), literally "heat", refers to a personal endeavor of discipline, undertaken to achieve a goal, accompanying suffering and pain. Earliest reference of this word is to be found in the Rgveda-8.82.7, where its is used in the sense 'pain, suffering' (Monier-Williams)[not in citation given]. It is usually applied in religious and spiritual terms, but can be applied to any field or context. One who undertakes tapas is a Tapasvin. From tapas the more widespread word tapasyā was derived, which is used in all three genders and was mentioned in Katyayana-Shrauta-Sutra, Baudhayana's Dharma-shashtra, Panini-4.4.128, etc. Rigveda has dozens of references to words derived from 'tapas' which indicate that "suffering, austerity" was its meaning from the Rigvedic times.

Monks and gurus in Hinduism, Sikhism and Jainism practice tapasya as a means to purify and strengthen their devotion to God, practice a religious lifestyle and obtain moksha, or spiritual liberation.

Tapas may be the striving for nirvana, or moksha. It may also be striving for perfection in a particular sport, field of knowledge or work. Tapasya may also be undertaken as penance, to liberate oneself from the consequences of a sin or sinful activities, or karma."

... You See, When I got sick in 2000 with a full blown AIDS diagnosis, I was happy that it was coming to an end and that I would be near God sooner than later. But within a year, I discovered Reiki and became a practitioner. Within two weeks of opening myself up to the Universal Energies, I met my guru and took my first 'BREATH with Intention'. It was an auspicious coming together of an AIDS martyr and a GU RU ... meaning from Darkness to Light. Within a short time I began to love myself and NOT want to die, but to live a new life full of this incredible drop of bliss that I was receiving everytime I sat with my guru.

The truth of the matter is I have not been great at keeping to an austere practice. I probably would have been merged with all that is sooner, if I had been, but the relinquishing of the body and the desires of my mind and soul to 'Entertain' have made this 10 year process (and the process is not over, but soon it will be accomplished) a challenge with every waking moment. On the flip side of the coin, when I do BREATHE, I am MERGED. It is a complete surrender to all parts of my body to the breath being poured into me. NOT me doing anything. (my singing lessons helped make this a firm reality in my yoga... breathing the deep bellows breath ... naturally and not forced).

In my knowing... sitting with Bhagwan Nityananda day after day, watching the other sadhus and the other sanyasi's doing their own forms of 'penance and austerities' ... i recognize the same inner drive to be at one with God as they have. And it is a beautiful connection I have with them. Me doing my lotus and my deep pranayam and them making trips walking around the temple ... what is the meaning of this 'reality' check and why state it publically.

Imran Khan made the statement all the way five years ago that he wanted to make me an ashram and have me do my healing work there. I looked at him and Laughed a big laugh. I did not see what he saw. And now, my friend and brother Pankaj Mishra, a man I really hardly know has bought a piece of land near my guru's ashram for me... for him as well, but for me to do my sadhana in the place that I have come to cherish,
Nimboli | Ganeshpuri.

Nityananda gave me the realization last night at temple that in fact, I have
already been doing my tapas for all these years... i am here in India to 'let my life go' and take on the spirit of the guru to share with others the true meaning of 'Enlightenment' ... GIVING to OTHERS with an open heart.

Some of my Profile Thoughts on Facebook ~

Through yoga, the sannyasin constantly experiences the blissful self. The only alms he longs for is bliss.Even deep in a cemetery, he lives as if in a pleasure-garden.Aloneness is his only abode. He tirelessly strives for the light. His movement is into no-mind. His body is clean and pure.Non-dependence is his refuge. His activities are like a playing, dancing river.

I have 6 of these covered so far ...

I learned a few things in the last few days about my great grandfather guru, Swami Nityananda. He shared Raja yoga, specifically maintaining the breath in the teesra anke ... this is something I have been doing for years and it truly expands the oxygen in your skull to the point that i feel a bouyancy that i can simply describe as expansive and free. He was also from the Natha Lineage, although he claims he had no guru, but taught a form of monotheistic devotion to Shiva, ie: God. Kashmir Shaivism is another word for this. And did you know that originally Shiva was not one of the many gods of India, but was corrupted when the Aryans invaded India and became a demigod. wow, the things you learn after 10 years of studying a discipline.

It is up to you to make whatsoever you want out of your life. An enlightened consciousness makes even death beautiful. An unenlightened consciousness makes even life ugly. For an enlightened consciousness, only beauty exists -- only beauty; only bliss exists -- only bliss. OSHO

What is Bliss ? my definition is the electrical stimuli that permeate your entire being when you are in prayer to GOD.

and this one is my definitive rendering out of ALL the 365 TAKES of my HAMLET 365 Project on YouTube ... (this is for all my 'new' friends) ~

http://www.causes.com/causes/467764?m... Join my Cause on Facebook. I'm not asking for money, I am seeking to share and inspire others to live their dreams ... and heal themselves through all natural remedies... It is time we take back our lives from the Pharmaceutical companies ~
peace, light and love,
Shaktim

I am a man who took on hiv/aids in 1996. I took on a guru in 2001, Mark Griffin, of Hard Light Center of Awakening, http://www.hardlight.org, which also included the power of his guru lineage, Swami Muktanada and Bagwan Nityananda. With the power of this pranayama, yogic science... i have gained the inner strength to call out to God for my healing naturally. My mission here is to bring awareness to the fact that you CAN heal through Ayurveda, a 5000 year old vedic tradition ...

Indian State of Mind इंडियन स्टेट ऑफ़ मंद

Indian State of Mind

by Tim Shaktim Maloney on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 4:22pm
This journey has revealed to me the extent to which America has sunk into a deep state of an inablility to communicate, to think, to express ... and of course I only share my limited experience with my own life and aquaintances, friends and family. But India is alive and they have thoughts and feelings that they share so completely with eloquence. An example: I get these texts saying that when Shaktim smiles, the whole world smiles with him. This wasn't from a girl, this was from a man that hardly speaks English to me face to face... but he was sharing his experience of how he perceives the world is 'around me'. So beautiful. Another new friend writes 10 texts in one day sharing all of his philosophies of life... beautifully executed and thought out... when I call him to thank him, he says, 'I'm so sorry, I cannot talk on the phone, I have no English'... So he can read and write beautifully, but cannot speak... Then there is my new actor friend, Anupam, who asked me to be his mentor. He talked with such a passion for the classic plays and acting that it inspired me to start learning more of my Hamlet. The last example for today is the tv program, Chicks talking about film or something like that. These two Indian women speak faster and come up with more quality insights about films that I have EVER heard from any entertainment news anchor in the US. Unbelievable. What I've discovered ... America is now medicated. According to the west, I am living with 'an impulse disorder' ... bi - polar. Here, they call it LIVING ... Everyone is spontaneous and will stop what they are doing just to help YOU !!! Me, that is. But the whole community acting like this. My host family is living in a Utopian Society of the True Barter System... i'm humbled, honored, stunned and trip over my own lack of understanding of these marvelous human beings every day ... with love and light from Aurangabad / Ellora, Shaktim

TIM MALONEY a Shaktim Hamlet TAKE THREE HUNDRED and FORTY NINE
This TAKE really began to free up on the word 'Bodkin' ... you'll notice the richness of my voice freeing from the otherwise static delivery. I've done so many things in this process to 'play', 'experiment', to bring the text forward from an honest place. I've failed miserably in places and I have achieved some very special moments as well. What I will take from this 2 years that I have put myself out on the line like this, really doing something no one in their 'right mind' would contemplate... is the feeling of Joy. The Joy of having the desire to create and actually making the commitment AND following through, bringing many wonderful surprises to my life, including the ability now to edit video. There are only 16 more TAKES left for me to do and then I will seal this channel and move on to another, or simply allow the universe to do its work to bring me the celebrity that I know is coming. Why do I want celebrity? Because I wasn't talented enough to make Broadway with my efforts... and I want you to buy a ticket to see me sing on Broadway. Thats the 'Big' Dream... that continues.... 'Dreams are Made of Action' ... What will you take from having watched me challenge myself with this project? I hope it will inspire you to Risk more than others think is safe, Care more than others think is wise. Dream more than others think is practical. Expect more than others think is possible. Show me some love baby ... www.imdb.com HAMLET 365 Shaktim ps soon I will be sharing more

To Be Or Not To Be तो बे और नोट तो बे

Hello Everyone, I am living in India now since February, 2010. My brother Imran Khan has given me a very gracious gift and I get to stay almost a whole year on my tourist visa!!! Part of my journey in India is pursuing my relationship with the Land and Energy that India IS. It is beyond words sometimes for me as I sink deeper into the fabric of the ancient shakti that permeates the land, the people and the air! They call it Incredible India for a very good reason. India is, to use the words of Osho, not just geography or history, It is vibrating with certain energy fields which no other country can claim. This gift I have given myself, that God has given me, to reach beyond my fears, the fears brought on by my choosing to take on Hiv/Aids as part of my karma, has brought me many blessings, shedding the western mindset and embracing ayurveda. Incorporating it with my pranayama yogic science, I am celebrating my destiny; To create a conversation with humanity, to invoke a renewed connection with the earth and all that God gave us to Heal ourselves, naturally. Meditation in the Caves of Ellora. Ah, what a gift! I sit in the acoustically perfect cave 30, tucked away high upon the hill and my heart opens. I am always inspired to do something creative. Sing, Chant and of course, Hamlet... and so, without further adieu, I bring you my 2010 HD version of 'To Be or Not To Be', in the magnificent World Heritage Caves of Ellora, India.

Shaktim's Indian Birthday !!!

The Metaphor of India

by Tim Shaktim Maloney on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 11:57am
my guru dream in 2002. My guru had given me magic gloves. I was one of his personal transcribers at the time. Actually I had taken a laptop with me to INdia in 2003 so I could transcribe our Shiva Ratri retreat from Varanasi, while living in Varanasi. Out of the 100 or so pages it turned out to be I only managed to type 40 while I was head deep in the vibration that Varanasi is and was to me. Later on I had another dream from my guru's retreat rice. My magic gloves were taken away. I had done something wrong. He came to me, handed me a ticket and whispered in my ear, "Be the First to follow me"... and with that he whisked me off on a magic carpet that flew me to safety in a village that I can only call paradise. As I landed and began looking around ... the air had changed.... I could see the atoms, the particles of oxygen undulating, floating in the air as if on a mission of celebrating itself, dancing and pulsating with a lightness, even a silliness that it made me smile.
What I have discovered since that time is that in fact, everytime I step foot on India's soil, something profound happens for me. I can see the vibrations in the air... everything seems heavier and yet lighter at the same time. It is a strange observation, but one that I am fascinated at. It makes me find pleasure in sitting on the side of the road with the villagers... staring into the distance for hours. Signed, a lover of India ... शक्तिमानान्दा
